Millennia of history and Napoleonic charm
Elba preserves traces that span centuries: from the Etruscan and Roman periods to the Renaissance and the Napoleonic era.
In 1814 the island became the place of exile of Napoleon Bonaparte, who left a mark that is still visible today.
You can visit his two residences:
- Villa dei Mulini, in the historic centre of Portoferraio, overlooking the sea;
- Villa San Martino, surrounded by greenery just outside the town.
In Portoferraio, a historic fortified town, you can admire the imposing Medici walls, the Renaissance fortresses and a historic centre rich in museums and panoramic views.
The island also offers:
- Roman archaeological sites
- Museums and mining heritage in the Rio area
- The mines in the Rio Elba and Capoliveri area
- The evocative Volterraio Fortress, one of the most fascinating panoramic points on the island
A cultural heritage that tells centuries of history in an extraordinary natural setting and makes Elba interesting even beyond the seaside season.
