From Camping Enfola, several routes start through Mediterranean scrub, offering spectacular sea views, small uncrowded beaches and historic stretches within the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.
Here we suggest some particularly scenic routes, but many others can be recommended to help you discover the wonders of Elba Island.
At the Reception you will find maps, trekking poles and personalised advice.
Enfola Ring Trail and Capo d’Enfola
4.2 km | 2 h | Elevation gain 240 m | Easy
Points of interest: nature, landscape, history
A panoramic route that embraces the entire Enfola promontory, with views over the Gulf of Viticcio, the Medici fortresses of Portoferraio and the Scoglio dell’Enfola. Along the trail: rare plant species, colonies of yellow-legged gulls, cormorant nests and remains of Second World War military posts.
The path begins behind the Tonnara and climbs through eight hairpin bends, from where you can admire the Gulf of Viticcio and Monte Capanne to the west, and the white beaches and Medici fortresses of Portoferraio to the east, until reaching the junction with the Enfola Ring Trail to the left and Capo d’Enfola to the right. Turning right leads directly to Capo d’Enfola, while continuing left the path climbs further to complete the full loop around the Enfola promontory.
From this route it is also possible to reach Capo d’Enfola afterwards. The trail, entirely within the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, offers views of rare plant species, one of the largest colonies of yellow-legged gulls on Elba, cormorant nests and breathtaking views of the Scoglio dell’Enfola and the Scoglio della Nave. Along the Enfola Ring Trail there are also ruins of Second World War military positions.
Enfola - Viticcio - Forno - Biodola - Lamaia - Porticciolo - La Guardiola Procchio - Enfola
15.5 km | 4 h | Elevation gain 300 m | Easy
Points of interest: landscape, nature
An itinerary that connects some of the most beautiful beaches on the northern coast: Forno, Scaglieri, Biodola, Lamaia and Porticciolo, up to the Guardiola, a former military post overlooking the Gulf of Procchio.
A varied route through white sand, Mediterranean scrub and stretches with sea views.
From Camping Enfola you reach Viticcio along the paved road and from here take path no. 49. After about 750 metres climbing through holm oaks and strawberry trees, you reach a crossroads: continuing along path no. 49 you arrive directly in Forno, a charming village overlooking a small sandy beach.
After crossing Forno you reach Scaglieri and then Biodola, beaches with fine white sand. You walk along the entire Biodola beach and enter the tunnels carved into the rock of Hotel Hermitage that run along the sea (open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Continue along a path on the right leading to the small beach of Lamaia, then proceed to the small beach of Porticciolo and from here reach the Guardiola, a former military position located on the eastern edge of the Gulf of Procchio.
La Vecchia Sterrata
11.5 km | 1 h 10 (MTB) | Elevation gain 250 m | Medium
Points of interest: landscape, nature
A more dynamic route, with panoramic dirt roads and descents towards the Gulf of Biodola, offering views over Portoferraio and Colle Reciso.
Ideal for those who enjoy mountain biking and mixed terrain routes.
From the campsite you reach the area of Acquaviva along the provincial road towards Portoferraio.
The entrance to the trail is about 300 metres after the car repair shop, on the right. The road is paved for a short stretch, then becomes a dirt road about 3 metres wide. The climb continues until you reach eight beautiful maritime pines (on the right there is a non-cyclable track leading directly to Viticcio), then continues uphill where after about 800 metres on the right you meet trail no. 51, which leads to the crossroads of trails 49 and 50 for Forno and Punta Penisola. For bicycles it is better to continue along the dirt road up to the top of the hill (Le Cime). From here the road begins to descend and reveals views of Portoferraio, Colle Reciso and the Lazzaro valley. After about 2 km you reach the paved road on the provincial road towards Procchio. From here a beautiful descent leads down towards the Gulf of Biodola. To return to Enfola, head towards Forno and then take trail no. 49, which must be done on foot at least up to the top of the hill. You then descend along trail no. 49 which quickly leads to Viticcio and from there, along the paved road, you return to Enfola.
